The Jesus and Mary Chain – "UV Rays." It’s fun! Fun! Fun! It’s all about TV!
The band has a great name—that was the first thing that caught my attention. They have such a variety of songs. I’ve heard noise rock from them, or dark, gothic-style tracks—not literally gothic, but in that vein. Or just great rock—radio-friendly stuff, pop-rock, or just noisy rock. Songs about all sorts of things. That’s how I discovered the band.
It has a
great intro—straightforward chords and lots of noise. The vocals kick in right
away, accompanied by that sustained guitar sound. It creates a specific
style—raw and direct. The guitar is really driving hard, playing a beautiful
rock rhythm that totally captivated me. It’s a driving beat—you can’t miss it.
It’s the song’s main highlight. The rhythm is gorgeous—like waves—and it keeps
playing throughout the track. It’s fun! Fun! Fun!
The drums
are fast—really fast. It creates a dynamic energy. Meanwhile, the guitar is
noisy but plays a cool, attention-grabbing rhythm. It’s a driving rhythm—simple
yet varied—drenched in noise. The singer’s delivery is pretty raw, too. But
that’s what makes it interesting. Such raw emotion. Like the aftermath of a
rainstorm. Fun! Fun! Fun! That’s probably how I imagined a rock band named
Alice in Chains would sound—partly because of the name; I’m a fan of Alice in
Wonderland. Cold spring rain—that’s the vibe. The kind that catches you off
guard, yet you’re actually glad it happened.
The track
ends with that same effect—a sort of grinding noise. It’s a brilliant touch for
this kind of rock. The whole song is built on sonic choices like that, plus a
driving, catchy rock rhythm. It’s a unique composition. The vocals are steady
but have a rusty, gritty rasp—like they’re coming from underwater. There’s
something in the lyrics about TV and running. It’s fun! Fun! Fun! A very
rhythmic, catchy track.
There’s a
noisy section in the middle where the chords blur into a chaotic wash of sound.
It’s absolutely stunning. The drums are fast-paced, playing their own melody,
while the electric guitar chords crash into one another, creating sonic chaos.
It’s awesome! The band has such a cool, raw sound on the chords. And then
there’s that great guitar riff again.
There’s a
segment that sounds like a speeding commuter train—the guitar is tearing along
amidst a wall of noise. The sound is pure chaos, creating a sort of
multi-dimensional effect. The singer mumbles something indistinct, adding to
the sonic disarray. You and the cosmos. It has a spacey feel—kind of like early
Hawkwind. There’s definitely a space theme going on. The final sounds resemble
radio static—but it’s actually the electric guitar. Like searching for cosmic
signals. The broadcast is ending. I picture it as a song about TV—or TV fans.
It’s probably something else, though. But as a listener, I also dream and
create my own musical spaces, like soap bubbles. Music by bands like Alice in
Chains, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Hawkwind really helps me do that. It’s
fun! Fun! Fun!
The cover
art is minimalist, but there’s a star drawn in the center. There’s some dark
blue, too, set against a light background. It really catches the eye, even with
the minimalist style. The star is drawn in a way that’s really striking—it
feels like the focal point. Maybe it’s the color choices. It’s bound to be
cool! Cool! Cool!
Music listener. From time to time i like to listen to the music. And write about it.
