Lian Ross – Live Forever: Cold Roses from Virtual Reality

A retrowave-disco queen lost in virtual dreams of eternal life. The track features a danceable rhythm—reminiscent of Eurodance or disco—blended with retrowave and electronic music. It’s accompanied by striking visuals, depicting a world within your heart where eternal life is possible. Let’s explore it together. The cosmic imagery embraces a vaporwave and retrowave aesthetic—a style I absolutely adore! I crave the touch of this virtual visual landscape!

The song opens with a crisp, cool rhythm, accented by the sound of an electric guitar. The singer utters the word forever—it’s now or never. The melody evolves into the main theme, flowing together as a seamless, unified stream. Forever, forever... a faint, ethereal voice whispers in the background. Lian Ross truly seems eternally young; she always looks fantastic in her music videos—and there are quite a few of them!

I singled out this particular song—and especially this video—for its background visuals, which evoke virtual reality and cyber-effects. The vaporwave and retrowave-inspired backdrops make her feel like a singer from a virtual realm. Take Game of Love, for instance—just look at those circles and fractal-like patterns, the shifting roads, and the ever-changing color filters!

And my absolute favorite part? The sequence set within a retrowave grid. Against a cool blue backdrop, purple or blue roses appear behind a veil—shifting in hue toward pink or violet. That sequence alone is enough to keep me watching; the imagery of those roses is what I love most. This is Lian Ross’s signature style from that era—music emerging from the depths of the digital realm, accompanied by distinctly electronic imagery.

It’s a vision from within the network, featuring pale roses and a cool, icy tone. And then there’s the incredible electronic rhythm vocalist, Lian Ross—appearing in a pink dress that looks as if it were plucked straight from a virtual palette. She has long white hair and eyes defined by dark eyeliner. Lian Ross is a marvel of the digital world—one of the ways I experience music.

A touch of rock creeps in, set against a backdrop of gray asphalt and shards of light. The singer’s voice carries you off into space, into vivid, striking imagery. A cheerful, fast-paced melody plays—reminiscent of a cartridge for an 8-bit Dendy game console—a bright, synth-driven tune that delights the listener. Then comes a brief transition, and the rhythm slows down. A new day is about to begin. The chorus picks up the pace, driven by synthesizer chords that land with a sharp, percussive emphasis. A cold, 8-bit melody flashes by—a treat for anyone who loves icy, virtual synth sounds. The synthesizers are excellent, locking into the rhythm, with melodies weaving in and out.

Now or never. Hold on. The singer’s voice is confident and rhythmic—just like the music itself. It’s self-assured, precise, synth-driven music. The virtual backdrop is superb—full of light, conveying a sense of great height. We see scenes of a city at night, bathed in light—so much light. The backgrounds shift, becoming brighter, before transitioning into the blackness of space. It’s a distinctly computer-generated, virtual, and synthetic visual experience.

At the word eternity, that cheerful 8-bit melody returns. A new day. The rhythm becomes noisier—almost like rock, yet with a dance-beat pulse. In the background, amidst the general din—much like the noisy electric guitar in a rock band—there’s a synthesizer. The synths are excellent, echoing or swelling like a chorus, layered over a rhythmic foundation that drives steadily forward from start to finish, measure by measure, like an algorithm.

Time to wake up. And break the sadness. These lyrics are sung over a quiet backdrop, the voice clear and prominent—like someone telling a story. If you listen closely, you can hear an electric hum in the background; there’s even an electric guitar in there, if you pay attention. I love this kind of sound. This is how I imagine virtual reality—just like this video. This is my cyberpunk.

Music listener. From time to time i like to listen to the music. And write about it.
