WinoFly – a selection of music, sounds, and special moves
WinoFly is
a fun game about flies. It's in the style of Windows 3.11. And it has sprite
graphics. Kind of kawaii. But only Windows 3.11 has a 256-color palette.
There's a white background. And funny sprite objects. Like flies flying around.
And you shoot them from below. And the levels are called portals.
There are
already 13 levels. And three waves in each level. For example, on the very
first level, all three waves are one line of flies. And on the final, 13th
level, all three waves are five lines of flies each time! Aaah! That's a lot!
Bzz! Look, a fly's flying!
And so the
number of lines in a single wave will increase. Often, the first wave is a
single line. But not always, as you approach the end, it reaches the maximum
number. When one wave is five lines of flies. In the middle of the game, there
will be two and three lines per wave. Four lines per wave.
For
example, in level 7. The first wave is one line. The second is three lines. And
the third wave is five lines. Or take the penultimate level. This is the first
wave – one line. The second and third waves are five lines each. As they say,
from simple to complex. That is, the number of lines increases with the level.
There's a
blue line at the top. It's like a part of the window. It's a decorative part in
the style of Windows 3.11. It shows the parameters. Like a menu during the
game. For example, this is where the wave is indicated. At the bottom, there's
a white bar. That's the level. Also scattered around. Something at the top is
in the blue bar. Something at the bottom is in the white bar. This is life
force, or, to put it simply, lives. And points, the game score.
And the
distinctive feature of the game: a special move. 7-second pause. And some fly
starts doing a special move. It teleports to the center of the screen. And it
moves along a small rectangle. It's measured in lines. It's after line 5. That
is, by the player's nose. And the fly moves along the rectangle and then
returns to its place. Then there's a pause. And again, the fly does this special
move to keep the player on their toes. And this is the game's signature
feature.
The move is
left or right. Essentially the same thing. Just a rectangle clockwise or
counterclockwise. The rectangle isn't tall. But it takes up almost the entire
screen. Literally ¼ of the screen horizontally remains untouched. /that special
move. It was developed specifically for this game.
I'm also
already choosing some music. Free music. So-called chiptune, 8-bit. In the
spirit of some cheerful music from the NES. Or MS DOS, or that same Windows
3.11. For now, I've settled on two music tracks. They're cheerful in tone. And
they have a sort of 8-bit feel. Thanks for the music, Kevin MacLeod. The tracks
are "Itty Bitty 8 Bit" and "Pixelland." One track will be
in the main menu. And these two tracks alternate throughout the levels.
I'm also
using the free program BFXR to create sounds. They should also be simple,
8-bit, and cheerful. You can literally count the different settings there, like
presets. And it's convenient that everything is randomly generated. If you
press a button enough times, you're guaranteed to get something suitable. It
doesn't have to be random.
Sound,
music, and special moves are for the final stages of development. I also need
to clean up the code from the previous game and maybe set up the libraries.
This is my first time doing this with libraries. It's programming again. I
spent a lot of time figuring out how to connect all the libraries. And I won't
complicate this game. I'm moving towards completion.
