BasGa – a retro space vibe in 4 colors
Another development. Again on the Galaga theme. This time, it's a retro game. And the resolution is 800x600. And at the same time, the sprites are large. I stumbled upon this idea while installing an old MS DOS. Like MS DOS 3.22. It has a couple of colors on the screen. 4 colors, for example. And I use two colors for the sprites. And then there's the background. That's the entire palette.
These are
large-scale spaceships. Literally made of squares. And they're painted in two
colors. And then there's the background. The background is blue and pink. And
there are two game modes. Blue and pink. This determines the color ratio. If
the background is blue, then all objects are pink. And vice versa. If the
background is pink, then all objects are blue.
That's the
idea behind this development. This time, it's science fiction. Back then,
computers in the 1980s were like science fiction. Everything was science
fiction. Space. And computers. Digital reality was just emerging. And these
spaceships. Made of squares and lines. Simple shapes. That's my design. They
could also be robots. Or automatons. Automatically controlled things. In space.
The game's
name is something like Galaga. But it sounds different somehow. To make it
distinctive. It's like a variant of early MS-DOS. Bass. Bass, the file
extension for Basic. And GA, short for Galaga. That's the whole name. The
game's distinctive feature is two screen modes. Blue and pink. And everything
adapts to this. About 20 enemy sprite types.
The idea
with screen modes. From early graphics. Only four colors. And you use them
somehow. I took that idea. And made one primary color. And two colors for
objects. And I change the colors like that. In a four-color palette.
I'm using
my own engine as a basis again. But it's not quite ready yet. Maybe I'm rushing
this. But I'm trying to make my move. In development. Trying to reach the level
of a toy in a week. Or two. I can't handle it. But I've started two games—I've
started. I have the sprites. I have the starting idea. As for the final
version, again, it's not all thought out yet.
It's a
sci-fi game. Like retro movies. The sci-fi variety. With robots. Space. Spaceships.
And the distinguishing feature is two graphics modes. To immerse you in the
retro, early MS DoS theme.
This time,
the screen is quite large: 800 by 600 pixels. And large sprites. I also
remember games with that fun sound effect. Like a whistle. Those very old and
primitive sound cards. Although back then, it was a whole mountain of
microchips and a breakthrough in technology. It's the same with graphics. A
couple of colors is already not bad. And four colors are even better. That's
what the game is about. In terms of mechanics, it's a standard theme again.
Move left and right. And shoot at spaceships. The ones located at the top of
the screen. That's about all there is. And the engine from the fly development.
And a retro
theme. Large images of objects. Simple movement. That's all there is for now.
Some other interesting gameplay features still need to be thought out. By the
way, this game is written down in my thread. 4 colors - 4 games. That's the
plan. 4-color CGA graphics. And a couple of ideas there. I haven't forgotten. I
wrote everything down. And now I've got this idea to run in parallel
development. So, a retro space vibe in 4 colors.
Basic Pascal version 1.21 "Sand Road" – most newest version. In this version there are 4 new games! Straight Road, Galixanar, Crest and Shooting Mod X, Fish Arcade Extreme Mod. And even more retro games! It is a pack of retro games with modern versions of Basic and Pascal.
