Сrests and Shooting Mod X – distance effect and fog with rain

 


The very first mod. A modification. For a simple game from 2023. A turn-based game. You control a small group of soldiers. Who are in trenches. Or near tank crosses. And they shoot in the opposite direction.


I've been thinking about making a modification for a long time. And now my skill allows me to do it. Improvements or changes to the game. I changed the screensavers a bit. Just a little to show that it's the same game. But a modification.


Added visual components. And some things as a basis for the modification. An idea. What if you can't see your enemy? So, there are two lines in the game. Your line and the enemy's line. One at the top. The other at the bottom of the screen. But what if you can't see the enemy line? It's night. Or a very long distance. But you only see the bullets flying in your direction.


This was an idea for a modification. And it's been implemented. An interesting idea. In essence, it could change the gameplay. And that's not all. There are many visual components. This is when the game starts. You're asked about game settings in text form.


The weather has appeared. It's just a visual effect. It takes up the entire screen. It makes the screen a little less clear. It's kind of funny. It's rain and snow. Snow is like crosses at an angle. An X. Tiny snowflakes. And rain is just a slash. And you can choose light snow, medium snow, or heavy snow. This is the number of such patterns. How many snowflakes will appear on the screen. Or raindrops. For rain, everything is the same, just the graphics are different. Light rain, medium rain, heavy rain. Purely visual. Weather. You can choose no weather at all. Everything will be the same as before. Just a black screen then.


The very first question. This is the location. Purely visual effect. When you start the game, you answer questions. And the game parameters are determined. So, first, everything new is asked. This is the location. Where are you? These are crosses. Tank crosses. This is a double design, double crosses. That is, the lines of the letter X are duplicated. Or triple crosses. Each X consists of three lines. It's purely a visual effect. It doesn't affect anything in the game, except for the graphical appearance.


This is concrete. This is a brick wall. Or a house. It's like squares. Concrete and a brick wall. A brick wall is made up of a bunch of bricks. It looks cool. The design is simple. And the most advanced design here is the house. The building. There's a wall. And a graphic window. The wall is protection. The window is free space where you shoot. Concrete is a square wall. With vertical lines. Again, I was thinking of wood. But let's go with concrete. That's the first thing that came to mind.



Another question: choosing a special effect. You can play without the effect. This is again purely visual. It doesn't affect the game, except for a few options. You can set fog, night, distance with fog. Or play without the effect.


Fog. Three types. Small. Medium. Big. These horizontal lines. They seem to make it difficult to read the screen. It's a kind of trap. Or a complication. A pattern of lines is superimposed on the screen. You can see your half clearly. But starting from the middle of the screen and all the way to the end, there's this fog. The more intense the fog, the more horizontal stripes.

 


An interesting effect—black night. That's what I made the modification for. It's when you only see your half of the screen. You can't see the enemy. Only their bullets. It's like you're shooting blind. Or you're navigating by their fired bullets. They stand in the doorway. They fire. A bullet flies. And you know that the enemy is still there this turn. Then they can move. Or stay. You can't see them. It's like guessing. A random effect. A lack of knowledge.

 


And another group of options. It's a mixture of the first and second. It's fog plus night. So you can't see the enemy. Only their bullets. And on the screen, on the second half, there will be fog. Also, three types: small, medium, large.




The distance effect, or as I called it, the dark night. That's the idea. I already came up with the visual elements while programming. The first mod is ready. The first modification!
