Duran Duran – Spellbound – stylish dance and goth

I've been listening to Duran Duran's album Danse Macabre for a while now. The song "Spellbound" was the first one that caught my attention. I also listen to this song "Siouxsie." And of course, I was really intrigued that Duran Duran have a similar song. Well, they sing it. In their own way. A dark dance. Very well recorded.

You can immediately feel the familiar pulse of the original song. Only here the theme is what makes it special. The musicians have brilliantly transferred everything to a different theme – electronic music. Synthpop. It seems to be moving from goth to synthpop. And there's a pulse that's memorable. A bit hysterical. Like Mick Jagger on stage.

3 minutes 27 seconds of madness and stylish dance themes. Completely absorbing. I immediately saw this song and from there, I started listening to the whole album. And I've listened to this song often. For years now. The song begins with a mysterious synthesizer. It's as if inviting you to touch the secret and peer into the shadows. Very interesting. And then a familiar melody begins. The melody is very successful in this song.

The strings are strummed. And then the dynamics increase even more, and immediately the vocals come. Yes, this is the same song! Wow! Well, who knows, maybe it was a different song, but with the same title. I have no choice. Something is sung in the song. I'll have to listen. I've always really liked this track. And then the rhythm becomes even more twisted. There's also the original video. It all took place in the forest, I think. Everyone is running through the forest. Then the rhythm slows down a little. But it's a great rhythm here. Very well thought out. Spellbound! Distrust! Oh! Ow! Oh!

You can't! Something is sung there. And everything speeds up again. There's some kind of witchcraft in this song after all. The rhythm is so strange. In a good way. Post-punk is good, if it's high-quality, then it has strange rhythms. Gothic, post-punk. That's the basic idea. I'm not a fan of post-punk specifically, but more of a gothic and atmospheric fan. But this one has electronics and dance. The rhythm allows it. And there's atmosphere, of course. A new version of the composition.

The composition is fast-tempo. A little hysterical. A little mysticism and mystery. And the guitar is so cool, such a loop. The drums keep the rhythm well. The vocalist sings everything very skillfully. He manages to convey the mood. And the dynamics. The rhythms change slightly at different points in the song. Sometimes a little faster. Sometimes a little different.

There's also a nervous quality to it, but in moderation. Something dark in the sound. Everything is preserved from the original. And very characteristic sounds like "Oh! Oh!" are also preserved in this composition.

It turned out so cool that I'm already confused. Electronic or rock. Gothic or dance. Somehow, everything blended into a single mix of sounds. Chaos. In the sound. Spellbound! A spell! Duran Duran's singer is really cool. And he sings beautifully. He nails many melodies. Spellbound in the form of Duran Duran has recently become an even more listenable song than the original itself. When was the song recorded? Must have been in the 80s.

There's something mystical about it. And I really like it. Like a play of shadows. There's mystery and rhythm. It's like the original. And it's also Duran Duran. Cool synthwave, pop. There are electric guitars here. In the song. It often happens that in the post-punk or gothic genres, there are interesting moments.

Sound, or something else. And at the same time, a lot of unnecessary and superfluous stuff has been added. It's hard to watch the video. Or listen to the entire disc. Unfortunately, Siouxsie has that trait too. But Duran Duran does it at its best. Stylized, gothic. And the recording creates a great cinematic effect! Without the quirks and grotesqueries that ruin the style. Duran Duran has style down to a T. It's good they took on this song.

And then it all ends abruptly.

Music listener. From time to time i like to listen to the music. And write about it.
