Straight Road – a virtual weekend by the sea
I'm returning to the path of a computer game developer. After a bit of a break. In this episode of the series, as they say. Something 80s and sunny. It's a bunch of drawn sprites. I drew 32 different cars in total. And I tested everything and everything. I improved the menu. I designed a font for displaying numbers. The process is moving forward. And that's the most important thing. Happy driving in a straight line!
Yes, in this game, you just have to drive forward. And avoid other cars. Right and left arrow keys. How are the controls here? And I drew more cars. Which you'll encounter on the road. There are 33 of them in total. They are of different types. There are several types of cars. There's a jeep. And they have a whole set of different colors. Since I've been putting off development, I came up with this solution – I added more sprites. It turned out even better!
I also started developing more properly. I solve problems and test them to see how they work. It's such a slow process for me. A couple of hours fly by just on one task. And even then, I can't finish it. So I have to add another hour. And another. And then the next time. But the main thing is that I can program everything calmly. And I like it. I'm developing skills.
I improved the menu here. Again. Since I was delaying with the game, I improved something. This menu. It now has beautiful fonts. And they're actually pictures. But this looks better. I drew the title screen and the menu screen. That was already in the plan. There's a red car there. A sports car, probably. Or for summer driving. Around the city or out to the sea. Like a game in my imagination about driving to the sea. But this is nowhere written in the game itself. So you can think about whatever you want.
I also designed a font for displaying numbers. Like a game score. It's also shown in the menu. It consists of numbers. The numbers load the pictures. Each picture is its own number. I based it on what I'd already done for the interface.
And we're
moving along a sunny road. On asphalt like this. Forward. Sunny asphalt. The
road. The central theme of the game. From the image. And the car is so sunny.
Bright. Colorful. A red car. And someone else is driving too. And you're
overtaking them. You're rushing to the sea!
Sun and
sea. What could be better! A game about summer mood. You're probably on
vacation. Or maybe you live like this every summer. And so, forward – to the
sea. Get in the car. And drive. A straight road is good. A straight road is
convenient. There are only two lanes on the road. And sand all around. And palm
trees. And signs. Some bushes grow on the sides. Greenery, in a word. Quite
sparse bushes. But large ones.
The game
will have 8 levels. They differ in the set of cars you see on the road. And a
certain set of side objects. The background you drive against and the color of
the asphalt. That's the level. From a visual perspective. And we drive, and
drive, and drive. I'm sure the game is very positive.
All the
indicators are at the top. In the form of enchanted pointers. A palm tree is
drawn. A car. Something else. These are greatly reduced sprites from the game
itself. And data. A timer. Level number. This is a road indicator. The game
score is in the middle of the screen. And so on. The game score is also shown
in the menu.
There's a
little screen saying "get ready for the next level." So, drive around
the map. And take a break. Go have some tea. Walk around the room for a bit.
Let's be more positive! Press the spacebar. And off to the next level. And do
this eight times. The levels won't be long. The game is like a simple game.
From the Windows 95 multimedia era. A game for the office. Relax! Dream of your
weekend at the seaside. At least a virtual one!
