Bass Guitar – New Year's Eve with Bass Music

My adventures in the world of music continue. It's already the new year, 2026. The year started off well. And recently. Over the past month or two, I've picked up a few things. I've taken even more steps toward music. And bass guitar. Now it's Sunday, at first I played 20 minutes. And now even longer. But for now, it's 20 minutes on Sunday. And on weekdays, I've added 10 minutes to the bass guitar. That's Tuesday, Thursday.

I did something strange right at the start. I divided the musical instruments by genre. And I began. The bass guitar – it's so gray. And dark wood. And autumnal. It's about gothic, gothic rock. And the guitar is so yellow. Spring-like, summery. And sunny. It's cosmic rock for a start. And then music like upbeat rock and 80s rock, and 80s heavy metal. But then. So far, only space rock.

And now the time has come to start synchronizing. For starters. It was fun. But now I need to bring everything down to the song. The song is the bass, the song is the electric guitar. It's the same in any genre. So Sunday is bass synchronization day. So, there's gothic rock. On weekdays. But I started playing space rock on Sunday.

Well, I'm playing, that's not really it. I'm just trying to keep up with the rhythm. Play the bars. As best I can. I haven't even connected an instrument yet. But that moment—learning how to connect a musical instrument to the computer—will come soon.

The next step—I've been mentally preparing for it. That's starting to learn bass guitar theory. Without music theory, there's nothing to do in music. Even if it's rock. And I have no desire to overcomplicate things. At least that's professionally. After all, I'm learning to play music. And that's the next step. It's 10 minutes of theory. I started learning the notes. How they're arranged on the guitar. Four strings. And in pitch. It's E A D G. And on the fourth string, F G A B C D E. The way they're arranged on the fretboard. That's 12 measures of this fretboard. There's a symbol like that on the wood.

An important step for me. Plus, theory. A little bit of distance between notes. Tone, tone, semitone. But I haven't memorized that yet. So, it's already been 30 minutes on Sunday. I entered the New Year with a 30-minute lesson on Sundays. Of which, 10 minutes is theory. Considering my start. What a lot of crying and playing. And nothing worked. This is a success! By my standards, this is definitely a big success!

Soon I'll have to try connecting musical instruments to the computer. And master a minimal program for minimal sound recording. In its simplest form. And look for suitable settings for different genres of music.

A great point - synchronization. Gothic rock from the bass guitar also transitions to the electric guitar. And space rock from the electric guitar transitions to the bass guitar. Now that's about bass. And bass theory is going strong. I'm making progress!

So far, I've mastered two compositions on bass in 120 rhythm. These are Sisters of Mercy's "Alice." Sisters of Mercy's "Driven Like a Snow." I just love that sound. And the sonic style. And I couldn't pass up the snow. It's such a magical time now—winter and snowmen. And Alice in Wonderland is my thing. Fairytale-like. And it also seemed like gothic rock has simpler chords and rhythms than, say, 80s Ozzy Osbourne. So I need to start with something easier.

I also practice for two hours on Wednesdays. Bass. But before the New Year, I kind of neglected Wednesdays. And now I'm back. Wednesdays are two hours. Bass. That's how it should be. That's something new there—Cure's "Friday I am in Love." Cure's "Snow in Summer." Siouxsie's "Spellbound." I especially like pop gothic songs like "Friday I am in love." It's melancholic and like an autumn wind. I'm learning it just like that, beat by beat. At the speed the song itself was written at. It's more challenging. And the rhythms are a little more complex. The note durations are different. I'm still tinkering with it.
