Computer PC 8810 – super ancient machine

 

So, I have got retro computer. Model Nixdorf Computer PC 8810 M30. Made in w. Germany. What is it a model – I don’t know a lot. As I understand, it is 286 computer. Deal is in its condition. It requires prevention or repair.  From interesting, it has interesting box. 

It is opened to the top. It is a compact model for its age. Lots of outputs at the back. For a printer, and for some strange but today’s moment outputs for video. Casual vga there is not in it. Instead of it it has a miracle of its own form. With a different number of pins. But it should be a vga, but with another number of pins. So, it is written in the network if to do a wire work then you can connect a vga. I don’t know. Format for video is Isa 8 bit. So for me it is a new thing. And inside of box it has a long card for a all box length. Video card or something. Beast.

But I cannot to run it. It is early. It has several problems.

1)      Rust at metal parts. Lots of it. So, I dry out from rust with special liquid. I don’t know how long I need to do it. I neve done things like this before. But there is some positive result.

2)      Broken battery. It is in a black case. Like patron. And it is broken. So, it is deadly in a case. I need to bring it out of the case. By the idea you push at the back, and battery goes out. But case is burned out. Maybe it is lots of rust inside. Or battery itself burned out. I don’t know. But by the idea computer can be run without it.

3)      And, by the way, for VGA wire machine cannot be started. Maybe, I need another video card. ISA. And with out with VGA. What certain I need – I don’t know.

  

I write this story for the point of interest. For self motivation. It is cool computer anyway. But can I make it and run it – I don’t know. For IBM PC 286 machine it has good parameters. It will be cool to start it up. And to do something. To write a text file, to write in Basic or Pascal. To see MS DOS and Norton Commander. Of course, to run some videogame. But I am not strong about details, yet. It is first impression.

By the way, it is a cool project. To restore system. So, I am now doing something, and take computer apart. And I try to remove rust from metal. In places where it is existed. It is a lot of it. And I need to try a hard brush to try. And now I put it into liquid from rust.

And I make a visual look. All boards are green. It is normal, as it looks. Battery – is killed absolutely. Case for battery is broken. But I can run machine without it. Can to change battery for something from modern? I don’t know. But it is not main.

About connectors. I understand a little. But there is no VGA. There is out for some exotic things. Like one color monitor. I even don’t know. It has its own technology for giving a screen. There is like something black and white. I don’t want to tell it wrong. Instead of Vga there are unique out with another number of contacts.

So, in plan, if I remove rust. More or less. And I can say that it can run. In main things. It is to look what 8 bit card it requires. But with Vga.

And it is main for today – it is rust, and try to launch it. To hear some noise at least. Or with black and white. But it is all, one by one. And after – video card. And in result -working computer. And it will not start, then I don’t know, it is a sad moment will be.
